FMP: An Educated Girl is…

For my Final Major Project (FMP) I decided to look into the importance of Educating Girls and the impact it can have on an individual and global level. I predominantly focused on this issue in India as they have the largest percentage of out-of-school girls, however, I conclude with expressing that this is a global issue that needs to be changed.

Within the editorial, I created double entendre images which were thought-provoking and monotone images with quotes which inform and educate the reader. These distinctive and strong images bring awareness and initiate change to this immense global issue. I also experimented with typography and typesetting to ensure the important text is highlighted; whether it be within a pull quote or the body text.

I chose to name the book “An Educated Girl Is…” as she is so much. As I couldn’t pin point her exact definition, as part of the cover, when you open the first page, there is a list of all the things an educated girl is.

After this definition, I included an epigraph of a quote from Malala Yousafzai, a Female Education Activist. It reads:

“The content of a book holds the power of education and it is with this power that we can shape our future and change lives. One child, one teacher, one book and one pen.”

I felt this was the perfect way to start to the editorial as it reflects the information that is contained within.
